Poetry escapes

I would like to share a favourite poem:

This Is Just to Say

by William Carlos Williamsrosalyn clare life coach practice poetry plums

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

This evokes for me rich visual images, sensory images and even taste. I can imagine the plums so clearly. Reading the poem gives me a brief escape and a break from the humdrum.

ACTION CHALLENGE: This is an unapologetically literary challenge. And those of you who do not see yourselves as literary might well love it too…

Revisit poetry that you have enjoyed in the past or discover a new pleasure. Leaf through an anthology at the library or google search poetry. Find a poem which makes you sense something delicious. Then revisit the poem at times of need and allow it to enrich your life.

Hey, I love the poem about the plums you ate! Even the photograph looks as sensual as it must have tasted. I’ll no doubt stop by again soon to see what other feasts you have in store.
